A delegation from Abu Dhabi Ports Group held a meeting at the Iraqi Ministry of Trade, attended by representatives from several ministries and government institutions, including companies affiliated with the Ministry of Transport. The meeting focused on prospects for expanding economic and logistical cooperation, as well as discussions on developing the maritime and land transport sectors and the infrastructure connected to logistics services.

Regarding the Ministry of Transport, the two sides discussed a number of technical and regulatory issues, most notably cooperation with the International Maritime Organization, maritime recognition, the International Road Transport (TIR) system, in addition to strengthening collaboration with Abu Dhabi Ports and reviewing investment opportunities linked to the Development Road project and Al Faw Grand Port.

Dr. Eng. Farhan Al-Fartousi, Director General of the General Company for Ports of Iraq, stated: “Iraq is moving towards building effective regional and international partnerships in the transport and ports sector, thereby enhancing its position as a pivotal logistics hub in the region.”

He added: “Maritime and land transport, maritime training, and the development of logistics infrastructure are today priorities within the Ministry of Transport’s plans, particularly with the rapid expansion of port projects and the Development Road.”

He affirmed: “Cooperation with Abu Dhabi Ports Group represents an important step in exchanging technical and operational expertise, supporting regional transport projects, and advancing economic integration, in line with the Iraqi government’s vision to develop the transport and logistics services sector in accordance with international standards.”
