Dr. Eng. Farhan Al-Fartousi, Director General of the General Company for Ports of Iraq, chaired an expanded meeting today to review progress on the operational readiness of Al-Faw Grand Port. The session was attended by Captain Abdul-Sada Khalaf, Deputy Director General for Technical Affairs, the Operations Committee, and senior department heads.
Discussions addressed vessel berthing, cargo handling, economic operation models, and anticipated revenues, as well as partnership frameworks with specialized international companies.
Dr. Al-Fartousi emphasized that the company is committed to completing all requirements for the port’s launch in line with a comprehensive technical and economic vision, ensuring maximum efficiency and revenue generation. He noted that current efforts are focused on establishing precise operational mechanisms aligned with international standards and selecting global partners with proven expertise in managing major ports.
He further highlighted that Al-Faw Grand Port is a strategic project for Iraq, expected to play a pivotal role in strengthening regional and international trade. The company underscored the importance of accelerating technical and legal procedures to ensure the port’s readiness within the designated timelines.
