The General Company for Ports of Iraq has announced a significant achievement in the field of international maritime qualification, following the successful completion of the Level 1 Marine Aids to Navigation Manager course (IALA L1.1) by two of its employees. The program was held in the Kingdom of Bahrain under the supervision of the International Association of Marine Aids to Navigation and Lighthouse Authorities (IALA), in cooperation with the Middle East Navigation Aids Service (MENAS) and the British organization Trinity House, with participants representing seven countries.

The Director General of the company stated: “This accomplishment marks a precedent in Iraq’s history, as national cadres have, for the first time, obtained advanced international accreditation in the management of marine aids to navigation. This certification is regarded as one of the most important maritime specializations worldwide, serving as a professional benchmark in the management of maritime safety systems.”

He added: “Graduating Iraqi personnel at this level reflects the Ports Authority’s commitment to adopting best international practices and strengthens Iraq’s position within the global navigation system, particularly in light of expanding port infrastructure projects and the growing volume of maritime transport.”

This achievement was realized through the direct support and follow-up of the company’s Director General, Dr. Eng. Farhan Al-Fartousi, as part of a broader initiative to develop specialized cadres and enhance their competencies. The (IALA L1.1) program is designed to prepare managers capable of overseeing complex navigation aid systems in accordance with international standards for maritime safety and environmental protection. Over the course of approximately one month, the program provided intensive theoretical and practical training, enriching participants’ expertise in managing navigation systems with internationally recognized accreditation standards.
