On Tuesday, February 10, 2026, Ms. Gérardine Delannoy, representative of the International Association of Marine Aids to Navigation and Lighthouse Authorities (IALA), carried out a field tour covering several seaports, facilities, and dry channels. The visit formed part of her program to examine navigational infrastructure and maritime safety procedures in Iraq.

She was accompanied by Captain Zain Al-Abidin Adel Al-Moussawi, Harbor Master and representative of the General Company for Ports of Iraq to IALA, along with a number of specialized maritime and technical staff.

The tour included a visit to the Marine Lighting Division, responsible for deploying and maintaining navigational buoys and organizing maritime routes, as well as monitoring mechanisms for disseminating safety instructions to vessels entering Iraqi waters and ports.

Captain Al-Moussawi stated: “The Marine Lighting Division plays a fundamental role in maintaining navigational buoys and organizing safe routes for vessels, in addition to issuing technical instructions related to navigation.” He added that the program also included visits to berths No. 5 and 6 to review quay fronts and docking procedures.

He further noted that the IALA representative will continue her tour with a visit to Um Qasir South Port, before proceeding to the GCPI Immersed tunnel to examine its navigational and technical aspects.

This tour is part of ongoing technical cooperation and coordination between the General Company for Ports of Iraq and IALA, aimed at strengthening maritime safety standards and developing the navigational system in Iraqi ports.
