On Sunday, February 1, 2026, Dr. Eng. Farhan Al-Fartousi, Director General of the General Company for Ports of Iraq, participated in a special session dedicated to discussing the Development Road project in Iraq and Al Faw Grand Port. The session was part of the Business Forum Conference organized by the German Liaison Office for Trade and Industry in Iraq.

The conference was held in Baghdad, attended by Dr. Nasser Al-Asadi, Advisor to the Prime Minister for Transport Affairs; Hudhaifa Boudal, Head of the Economic Transformation Enhancement Project at the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) in Iraq; representatives from Oliver Wyman Management Consulting; and a number of leading German companies in the fields of industry and trade.

The Director General emphasized that “the Development Road project and Al Faw Grand Port constitute two fundamental pillars for reshaping the map of transport and trade in Iraq and the wider region, by linking Iraqi ports with land and rail corridors extending to European markets.”

He further noted that “Al Faw Grand Port represents the cornerstone of this strategic project, providing advanced infrastructure capable of attracting international investment and strengthening partnerships with global companies—particularly German firms—in the fields of transport, logistics, and related industries.”

The session also examined opportunities for integration between the Development Road project and Al Faw Grand Port, highlighting their role in supporting economic transformation and enhancing international partnerships, especially with the German industrial and commercial sectors, within the framework of developing Iraq’s logistical infrastructure.
