Dr. Farhan Al-Fartousi, Director General of the General Company for Ports of Iraq, announced on Monday, January 5, 2026, that the GCPI immersed tunnel project within Al-Faw Grand Port has made significant progress. He noted that vehicles are expected to pass through the tunnel by late February, with the project scheduled for full completion before mid-year.

During a press conference, the Director General stated that “the project is part of efforts to connect the two sides of Al-Faw and Um Qasir Ports, representing a strategic step to strengthen land connectivity within the port and enhance the efficiency of cargo and resource movement.”

He emphasized that “the achievement of this project reflects the company’s commitment to developing Iraq’s port infrastructure, ensuring its readiness to support regional and international trade flows.”
