The General Company for Ports of Iraq announced the launch of a direct maritime transport service between Rashid Port in Dubai and Um Qasir Port. The service was inaugurated by DP World Group through the roll-on/roll-off vessel DP World Express, operating on a maritime line with a transit time not exceeding 36 hours and capable of accommodating 145 accompanied trailers per voyage.

In its statement, the company affirmed that “the new service represents an important addition to the capabilities of Iraq’s ports in handling roll-on/roll-off (Ro-Ro) vehicles and in expanding fast maritime transport options.” It added that “the line will help reduce reliance on land transport, accelerate cargo delivery, and provide direct solutions for transporting accompanied trailers.”

The company further noted that it is “working to prepare the operational requirements at Um Qasir Port to ensure smooth service delivery,” pointing out that “the new line will support bilateral trade between Iraq and the United Arab Emirates, enhance the efficiency of regional supply chains, and strengthen the competitiveness of Iraqi ports.”

The statement also highlighted that “the growing demand for direct trailer transport services reflects the Iraqi market’s need for faster and more reliable routes,” noting that “the launch of this line aligns with a broader orientation toward adopting sustainable logistics options that contribute to reducing carbon emissions compared to traditional transport modes.”

The company concluded by affirming that “the General Company for Ports of Iraq will continue to develop its infrastructure and strengthen its regional partnerships to ensure the provision of modern maritime services that meet rising demand and reinforce Iraq’s ability to play a pivotal role in regional and international trade.”
