The Director General of the General Company for Ports of Iraq, Dr. Eng. Farhan Al-Fartousi, continues his official visit to Hamburg, accompanied by a delegation from the Basra local government—representing both the executive and legislative branches, as well as the private sector—at the invitation of the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ). The visit is part of a study program aimed at enhancing cooperation and exchanging expertise in port management and operations.
Acting in line with the directives of the Minister of Transport, Mr. Razzaq Muhaibis Al-Saadawi, the Director General stated that “our discussions with the Hamburg Port Authority focused on benefiting from the German port’s expertise in operating Al Faw Grand Port and linking it to the Development Road project.”
He added that “the meeting, held during a field tour inside the German port, addressed governance mechanisms, the financial model for investments, fee structures, and the nature of the port’s relationship with the local government.”
He further noted that “an agreement was reached to organize a joint workshop and to invite the Hamburg Port Authority to visit Al Faw Grand Port,” emphasizing that “both sides will engage in substantive discussions on clean energy investment and the requirements of modern management in line with emerging environmental standards.”
