Dr. Eng. Farhan Al-Fartousi, Director General of the GCPI, received a delegation from the Iraq Britain Business Council (IBBC), headed by the Council’s British representative, Mr. Colin Findlay. The delegation also included Dr. Ali Jawad, IBBC’s representative in Basra; Mr. Ali Mashkoor, Director of the Council’s Baghdad office; and Mr. Ahmed Shaban, Chairman of the Maritime Committee and Council Member.
Dr. Al-Fartousi stated, “We welcomed the IBBC delegation and discussed the importance of establishing a specialized scientific or academic institution—or rehabilitating existing institutions to meet international standards—in partnership with the British Council. This initiative aims to elevate the competence of port personnel and cultivate future leadership in the maritime sector.”
He added, “We reaffirmed our strong commitment to national talent and to developing future leaders capable of managing port and investment projects in accordance with the highest international standards.” He emphasized that “collaboration with British institutions will provide the scientific and technical expertise necessary to support the strategic development of Iraqi ports and enhance their operational and administrative capacities.”
This meeting is part of the General Company for Ports of Iraq’s ongoing efforts to build human capacity and strengthen international partnerships, contributing to improved port performance and increased national economic returns.
