On Tuesday, September 16, 2025, the General Company for Ports of Iraq held an extensive meeting chaired by Director General Dr. Eng. Farhan Al-Fartousi, with the participation of the Al-Faw Grand Port Authority team and representatives from the consulting firms BTP and Technital. The meeting focused on the latest developments regarding the update of the port’s master plan.

The Director General stated that “the meeting reviewed the progress made in preparing the updated master plan and the technical steps completed by the two consulting firms, with the aim of developing the plans in line with modern international standards and the future operational requirements of the port.”

He emphasized that “the General Company for Ports of Iraq attaches utmost importance to the master plan update, as it serves as the technical and engineering reference upon which the future of the port will be built.” He added that “ongoing coordination with the consulting firms ensures the adoption of a comprehensive vision that takes into account regional economic and logistical changes.”

He further noted that “the updated master plan aligns with the Iraqi government’s strategy to position Al-Faw Grand Port as an integrated logistics platform capable of accommodating global trade flows and directly connecting Iraq to international maritime corridors through the Development Road and complementary projects.”

The meeting reaffirmed the continued efforts to strengthen the status of Al-Faw Grand Port as a generational strategic project that combines national vision with global consulting expertise, serving as a cornerstone in building a sustainable Iraqi economy.
