Dr. Eng. Farhan Al-Fartousi, Director General of the General Company for Ports of Iraq, chaired a joint meeting in Baghdad with representatives from Daewoo Engineering & Construction (South Korea) and Technital (Italy), in the presence of the Al-Faw Grand Port Authority team. The meeting focused on reviewing the progress of strategic projects and reaffirming adherence to technical specifications and the established timelines for completion.
Dr. Al-Fartousi stated, “Today’s meeting in Baghdad with Daewoo and Technital, alongside the Al-Faw Port Authority team, emphasized the importance of strict compliance with project deadlines and the application of world-class technical standards. This aligns with the Iraqi government’s strategic vision for completing Al-Faw Grand Port, a vital economic gateway for Iraq and the region.”
He added, “During the meeting, the company underscored the need to prioritize Iraqi labor and national expertise in employment contracts. This approach aims to facilitate knowledge transfer and strengthen local capabilities in maritime and port-related projects.”
He further noted that “discussions with Daewoo and Technital also focused on monitoring contractual obligations and ensuring conformity with design and construction specifications, to guarantee the successful delivery of Al-Faw Grand Port as planned.”
Dr. Al-Fartousi concluded, “Al-Faw Grand Port has entered a critical phase of implementation. The success of this project depends on the integration of efforts between the Iraqi side, the executing companies, and the international consultancy team, in pursuit of Iraq’s economic aspirations.”
This meeting reaffirms the General Company for Ports of Iraq’s commitment to closely supervising on-ground execution and ensuring that both executing and consulting firms uphold the highest standards of quality and adhere to the project schedule.
