On Sunday, July 20, 2025, the Committee for Strategic Planning and Federal Service in the Iraqi Council of Representatives conducted a field visit to Al Faw Grand Port to review the achieved progress in strategic projects. The visit was conducted in the presence of the Minister of Transport, Mr. Razzaq M. Al-Saadawi, the Chairman of the Basra Provincial Council, Mr. Khalaf Al-Badran, and the Director General of the General Company for Ports of Iraq, Dr. Eng. Farhan Al-Fartousi.
The parliamentary delegation was headed by the Committee Chairwoman, MP Laila Al-Tamimi, along with several committee members. The tour included inspection of the connecting road project, the container yard, the five berths, and the eastern breakwater.
The Director General of Ports stated: “We presented a detailed overview to the committee members and accompanying delegation on the progress of Al Faw Grand Port projects, highlighting completion percentages and specific work details related to the berths, storage yards, and associated infrastructure.”
He added, “This visit provides significant moral support to the staff of Iraqi Ports, who work tirelessly around the clock to complete this strategic project. It also reflects a deep parliamentary understanding of the daily operational challenges we face on site.”
During the tour, Chairwoman Laila Al-Tamimi praised the tremendous efforts invested in the project, stating, “What we have witnessed in terms of organization and execution represents a major achievement attributable to the Ministry of Transport and the General Company for Ports of Iraq and its leadership.”
She further added, “We in the committee will continue to provide constant support to this project and will ensure the legislative and oversight requirements necessary to complete the remaining works and reach the operational phase.”
Al Faw Grand Port is regarded as one of Iraq’s and the region’s most prominent strategic ventures. It features vast commercial berths, an immersed tunnel—the first of its kind in the Middle East—and an integrated network of roads and logistical facilities.
