On Tuesday, July 1, 2025, the Director General of the General Company for Ports of Iraq held a comprehensive technical meeting to discuss the latest developments in Al Faw Grand Port projects. The meeting was attended by representatives from Al Faw Grand Port Authority, South Korea’s Daewoo Engineering & Construction—the project’s contractor—and the Italian consultancy firm.
During the session, the current progress rates of the five main projects were reviewed. Participants also discussed key technical and logistical challenges and explored practical solutions to ensure continuity of work at a stable pace, in alignment with the predefined timeline and previously approved implementation plans.
The Director General stressed the importance of strict adherence to international technical quality standards and emphasized the need for effective coordination among all entities involved in the project. He noted, “The current phase demands the highest levels of discipline and professionalism, as Al Faw Grand Port is not merely a technical venture, but a national project representing the future of Iraq’s economy and its forthcoming maritime strategy.”
He further highlighted the necessity of intensifying joint field visits and regularly updating progress reports to facilitate swift decision-making and enhance transparency and accuracy in operations.
This meeting is part of the ongoing follow-up strategy led by Dr. Eng. Farhan Al-Fartousi, Head of the Ports Administration, aimed at ensuring tangible progress across all phases of execution and upholding professional standards in one of the largest infrastructure projects in modern Iraqi history.
