The College of Administration and Economics at Al-Maqal University, in collaboration with the General Company for Ports of Iraq, organized a scientific symposium titled “The Strategic Dimensions of Al-Faw Grand Port and the Development Road.” The event featured the participation of a distinguished group of academics and specialists in economic and port-related affairs.

The symposium was attended by the Director General of the General Company for Ports of Iraq, Dr. Eng. Farhan Al-Fartousi, who presented the future vision for the port and highlighted the progress made in implementing its infrastructure. Meanwhile, the economic expert, Dr. Nabil Al-Marsoumi, delivered an in-depth analytical reading of the anticipated economic returns from the Development Road and Al-Faw Grand Port projects.

The Director General emphasized that “Al-Faw Grand Port is no longer merely an economic project, but has become a strategic endeavor for national sovereignty and sustainable development. Today, we are presented with a historic opportunity to transform Iraq’s geographical position into genuine added value within global supply chains by connecting it to international trade hubs through the Development Road project. This initiative will grant Iraq a leading role in the land-sea linkage between East and West.”

He further stated, “With integrated national efforts, we have ensured that this project is built according to the highest international standards, supported by effective international partnerships that guarantee its economic sustainability and open new horizons for industrial and service investments linked to port activities. What we are witnessing today is the beginning of a comprehensive strategic transformation, not only in the transportation sector but across the national economy as a whole.”

The symposium also witnessed the participation of professors and students from the Colleges of Engineering and Administration and Economics, who enriched the discussions with their interventions and inquiries regarding the prospects of these projects and mechanisms to activate their strategic dimensions within the state’s general policies.
