The Director General of the General Company for Ports of Iraq, Dr. Eng. Farhan Al-Fartousi, highlighted significant progress in the strategic projects of Al-Faw Grand Port, reflecting ongoing efforts to transform the port into a regional logistical hub connecting East and West.
He stated that the completion rate for the navigational channel reached 85%, while the container yard achieved nearly 90%. These milestones underscore the port’s readiness to commence operational service in accordance with the established timelines.
Additionally, the connecting road between Al-Faw Grand Port and the international highway is nearing completion with a 99% progress rate, and its imminent opening will play a pivotal role in connecting the port to the regional land transport network.
Dr. Al-Fartousi also emphasized that work continues on the immersed tunnel project—one of the most significant engineering endeavors within the port’s infrastructure—under direct supervision from specialized engineering teams, adhering to the set schedules.
He credited these advancements to substantial government support, ongoing coordination with executing companies, and international consultancy firms. He stressed that Al-Faw Grand Port represents a strategic step toward enabling Iraq to reclaim its vital position in global maritime trade.
This progress aligns with an increase in official, regional and international visits to the project, reflecting growing global interest in the port as a promising trade corridor.
