The Iraqi Minister of Transport, Mr. Razzaq M. Al-Saadawi, and the Omani Minister of Transport, Communications, and Information Technology, Eng. Saeed bin Hamoud Al-Ma’awali, conducted a field visit to Al-Faw Grand Port project. They were accompanied by Dr. Eng. Farhan Al-Fartousi, Director General of the General Company for Ports of Iraq, along with several officials and technical experts, to examine the completed works and ongoing stages of this strategic project.
The tour included sites such as the implementation area of the immersed tunnel, the five berths, the container terminal, the connecting road approaches, as well as infrastructure service and navigation facilities. The ministerial delegation received detailed explanations from engineering and technical staff regarding progress rates, the types of technologies employed, and the work schedule for the next phase.
The Director General of the company stated that “ Al-Faw Grand Port is a cornerstone for the future of maritime and logistical transport in Iraq and the region. Today, it is one of the largest projects under construction in the Middle East in terms of scale and economic impact.”
He further explained, “Our visit today with the Iraqi and Omani Ministers of Transport reflects the growing importance that our regional neighbors attach to Iraq’s strategic location and its connection to global trade corridors.”
He added, “We presented to the delegation the progress in constructing the immersed tunnel, which is in advanced stages, as well as the completion of the five berths, container terminal, and logistical roads. Collectively, these projects enhance Iraq’s ability to become a pivotal hub in global supply chains.”
He emphasized that “Iraqi ports are open to cooperation with neighboring countries, particularly Oman, with the aim of exchanging expertise and activating joint initiatives in the maritime transport sector, within an integrative framework that strengthens the national economy and supports sustainable development.”
