As part of Iraq’s continuous efforts to enhance international cooperation in infrastructure and strategic projects—particularly in the port sector—Dr. Eng. Farhan Al-Fartousi, Director General of the General Company for Ports of Iraq, welcomed a high-level delegation from Hyundai Engineering & Construction Company, headed by its Director General, Mr. Kang Seok Won.

During the meeting, the two sides discussed opportunities for joint collaboration in engineering construction, especially concerning strategic port and maritime projects.

The Director General presented the most critical projects currently undertaken by Iraq’s Ports, including Al-Faw Grand Port project, which represents a pivotal turning point for Iraq’s maritime economy, and the Development Road project—one of Iraq’s premier initiatives to connect with international trade corridors.

The Director General stated, “We aim for genuine partnerships with the world’s largest companies, particularly as the port sector in Iraq witnesses significant progress across various levels, including the establishment of strategic projects such as Al-Faw Grand Port.”

He continued, “We emphasized the necessity for these companies to have a foothold in our strategic plans, through which we aspire to reshape the world’s transportation map.”

In response, Mr. Kang Seok Won expressed his admiration for the progress achieved by Iraq’s Ports, particularly Al-Faw Grand Port project. He reiterated Hyundai’s interest in contributing to these monumental projects, given their direct impact on strengthening the country’s economic and developmental infrastructure.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the Director General extended an official invitation to the Korean delegation to visit Al-Faw Grand Port project site. This would provide a firsthand view of the progress made, as well as the investment and operational opportunities offered by the project—especially amidst the urgent need for international partnerships to accelerate the pace of development and achieve national growth objectives.

This meeting marks a practical step toward building strategic alliances with leading global companies, paving the way for transformative changes in the port and logistics sectors, and solidifying Iraq’s position as a key hub for maritime trade in the region.
