Today, Monday, February 24, 2025, the General Company for Ports of Iraq announced that the company executing the immersed tunnel project has commenced the installation of flotation buoys, survey towers, and GPS devices on the first segment of the immersed tunnel in preparation for placing it within the tunnel’s path in the Khor Al-Zubair navigation channel.
The Director General of the company, Dr. Eng. Farhan Al-Fartousi, stated, “The company executing the immersed tunnel project has started installing flotation buoys, survey towers, and GPS devices on the first segment of the immersed tunnel in preparation for placing it within the tunnel’s path in the Khor Al-Zubair navigation channel.”
He pointed out that “the installation of buoys and survey and GPS devices aims to accurately document and determine the path. This is part of the necessary preparations to ensure the successful implementation of the immersed tunnel, which will contribute to increasing the capacity to receive goods passing through it beneath the Khor Al-Zubair channel.”
He confirmed that “all technical matters in the project are being meticulously studied and monitored by our company’s engineers and the Italian consultant, as this project is being implemented for the first time in the Middle East, and the calculations must be accurate and error-free. Therefore, we are following up on all its details.”
He explained that “this step represents an important phase in the project, which is one of the vital projects that will significantly contribute to enhancing the infrastructure of Iraqi ports and improving maritime trade and transportation in the region.”
