Dr. Eng. Farhan Al-Fartousi, Director General of the General Company for Iraqi Ports, announced today, Sunday, Monday 24, 2025, the latest updates regarding the Al-Faw Navigation Channel project, one of the five projects at Al-Faw. Grand Port. He noted that the excavation output as of February 22, 2025, has reached 47,500,000 square meters.
The Director General stated that “The completion rate of the Al-Faw Navigation Channel project, which is considered one of the key projects at Al-Faw Grand Port,has reached 82.6%.”
He added, “The excavation output as of February 22, 2025, has reached 47,500,000 square meters,” pointing out that “the channel extends for a length of 23 kilometers.”
He continued, “The channel extends from Buoy No. 3 in Khor Abdullah to the turning basin at Al-Faw Grand Port.”
He indicated that “The project also includes the installation of specialized marine platforms that provide accurate and comprehensive information about tides, wind speed, and the speed and direction of marine currents, as well as weather conditions, thereby enhancing the port’s ability to provide precise data supporting maritime and logistical operations.”
He affirmed that “These achievements reflect significant progress in the implementation of Al-Faw Grand Port project.”
It is worth noting that Al-Faw Grand Port project is considered a strategic endeavor that will enhance Iraq’s capacity to accommodate large commercial vessels with deep drafts, thus contributing to further development in maritime trade exchange.
