On the second day of the historic visit of the Secretary-General of the International Maritime Organization (IMO), Mr. Arsenio Dominguez, a field tour was conducted in the ports of Iraq. This tour focused on closely observing the progress of the Al-Faw Grand Port projects, one of the key strategic projects contributing to the development of the Iraqi maritime sector.
During the tour, the international official expressed his profound admiration for the advanced level achieved in Iraq’s ports. He stated, “From the beginning, I was aware of Iraq’s direction towards enhancing the maritime transport sector, but what I witnessed today on the ground confirms that this transformation has indeed been realized. The Iraqi maritime sector is paying significant attention to maritime safety, security, and environmental protection.”
He added, “This continuous development in the Iraqi ports is not limited to infrastructure but extends to building human capacities, which is vital for the global maritime industry. Today, Iraq is capable of supplying the international maritime sector with the personnel and expertise needed to enhance maritime safety and international cooperation.”
