Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ Al-Sudani stated that the Al Faw Grand Port project has officially entered the global trade and transportation routes, positioning Iraq to become a maritime nation. He highlighted that the port, along with the Development Road Project, will serve as a gateway for economic integration in the region.

During the ceremony on Thursday, Al-Sudani oversaw the receipt of the 5 berths at Al Faw Grand Port in Basra, which were completed by the executing Korean company and are now operational. In his speech, he emphasized that these berths are the backbone of the first phase of the project, which is set to be completed next year according to the planned timeline. He noted that large commercial vessels with deep drafts have already docked at the port.

The Prime Minister announced that the project is now officially part of the global trade and transportation routes, particularly in the Middle East, which holds major strategic importance for international commerce. He stated that the project is one of the world’s leading maritime hubs, focusing on energy, trade, and communication. The project will help Iraq shift from a country dependent on other nations’ ports to becoming a maritime nation with full access to the Gulf.

Al-Sudani emphasized that economic development and transformation are integral to meeting the country’s needs and strengthening Iraq’s connections to global trade. He reiterated that Iraq has always been a key player in the global economy and a historical hub for international trade routes.
