Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ Al-Sudani Approves Recommendations for Gas Platform at Al Faw Grand Port

Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ Al-Sudani has approved the recommendations for the construction of the first-ever gas platform at Al Faw Grand Port, marking a significant milestone in Iraq’s energy infrastructure.

According to a statement from the Prime Minister’s Media Office, Al-Sudani confirmed his approval of the recommendations from the specialized committee to establish a permanent gas platform at Al Faw Grand Port, the first of its kind in Iraq’s oil and gas sector.

The approval followed a meeting chaired by the Prime Minister to review the procedures for implementing and operating the gas import platform, which was endorsed by the Cabinet to ensure a continuous supply of gas from multiple sources, addressing the shortage in electricity station operations.

The Prime Minister emphasized that this vital project could only proceed due to the significant progress made in the Al Faw Grand Port Project, with the completion of its docks nearing. He noted that the initiative aligns with the government’s efforts to resolve gas supply issues, eliminate dependence on imported gas, and shift completely to relying on nationally produced gas from local fields.

The approved recommendations include inviting a prestigious global consulting company to oversee the technical and commercial aspects of the project and calling for tenders to construct the permanent liquefied gas import platform at Al Faw Grand Port, along with all necessary infrastructure, to be connected to the national pipeline network.
