Minister of Transport, Mr. Razzaq Mohibis Al-Saadawi, Chairs Expanded Meeting to Discuss the Development Road Project
Minister of Transport Mr. Razzaq Mohibis Al-Saadawi chaired a ministerial meeting with the consulting firms BTP and Oliver Wyman, attended by the Prime Minister’s Transport Adviser, the Director General of Ports Dr. Engineer Farhan Al-Fartousi, the Director General of Railways Engineer Jabar Lahis, and the Secretary of the Supreme Committee for the Development Road Project.
According to a statement from the Ministry, the meeting reviewed the consulting firms’ work regarding the requirements to begin the Development Road Project and discussed the progress of the Al Faw Grand Port Project.
The statement emphasized that Minister Al-Saadawi stressed the need for ministries and institutions involved in the Development Road Project to submit their data to Oliver Wyman to prepare a comprehensive vision for the project, in line with the directives of the Prime Minister.
Regarding the Al Faw Grand Port Project, the statement noted that the link road has achieved a 96% completion rate, while the navigation channel has reached 81% completion, with approximately 89 million cubic meters of soil excavated from both the internal and external navigation channels.
The immersed tunnel project is progressing as planned, with the project having reached the floating phase, and soon the ten concrete blocks will be installed under the Khor Al-Zubair Canal to form the immersed tunnel.
As for the container yard, the statement confirmed that the completion rate has surpassed 84%.
The statement also highlighted a clear interest from several companies in cooperating on the management and operation of the port, based on the specifications laid out by the consulting firms. Eleven top-ranking global companies are interested in operating the port, including CMA CGM (France), Maersk, and the ICTC (Philippines).
